Johnny Hopkins Creation Records / Oasis press officer.

Ever wondered how crazy it must have been when Oasis exploded from being an indie band into being a world-wide phenomenon? We are thrilled to add a man to our Talks stage who knows just how that was. Johnny Hopkins was the press officer for Oasis from when they signed to Creation Records in 1993, through the glory years, up until 2000.

Johnny has a wealth of experience and we are so looking forward to hearing him talk to John Andrews (who also worked at Creation Records). There will be a Q&A too, so if you have any questions you’d like to ask – see you on 27 July!

A music obsessive from the age of 4, Johnny Hopkins was Head of Press and Oasis’s publicist at Creation Records in the heat of the 1990s, also PRing Bernard Butler, Primal Scream. Prior to that he worked at One Little Indian with the Sugarcubes, Björk and The Shamen. Since 2000, at Triad Publicity Johnny has represented many clients including Sinead O’ConnorLee ‘Scratch‘ Perry, Graham Coxon, Kasabian, Jesus & Mary Chain, Mark Stewart, Adrian Sherwood, as well as the photographers Dennis Morris and Gered Mankowitz. His first music job was at Hammersmith Odeon, and he has also been a regular DJ and live promoter. Johnny is an academic and author writing about Velvet Underground, Elvis Presley, Britpop, music and national identity, and the music industry.

Johnny joins Richard Norris (The Grid) who talks about his biography, published by White Rabbit BooksStrange Things Are Happening‘ and Daniel Rachel who talks about his book, ‘The Story of 2 Tone‘ also published by White Rabbit. John Andrews (Caught By The River / Creation Records) will be hosting this stage.
