Meet The Artists!

We are delighted to welcome our headliner, King Creosote.

Since the mid-late 1990s, Kenny Anderson’s DIY pop alter-ego King Creosote has released over 100 records (at a relatively conservative guess), and his songs have been covered and performed by artists including Simple Minds and Patti Smith.

Many of his LPs, EPs and CDRs were self-released via Anderson’s homegrown Fife imprint, Fence-amid major label dalliances (2005’s KC Rules OK and 2007’s Bombshell on Warners), and a long-standing kinship with Domino Records, whose KC dispatches include Kenny and Beth’s Musakal Boat Rides (2003), the Mercury Prize-shortlisted Jon Hopkins union Diamond Mine (2011), and 2014’s From Scotland With Love, which soundtracked the award-winning film of the same name.

King Creosote will be headlining the Woodland Stage.

What was the first record, cd or book that you bought?

A 12” single by Swansway called ‘’Soul Train’’ that I heard them play on The Tube.

Where did you buy it from?

‘’Tracks’’, long gone on Bell Street, St. Andrews.

(Sadly, Google was unable to provide me with any images of Tracks – Jo)

Is there a piece of music / artist you love which you feel not enough people know about?

Mat Fowler quite recently moved to Pittenweem from Norwich, he puts LPs out on his Spillage Fete label as ‘’A Happy Return’’.

What was the first gig you went to?

I can’t remember which came first, either Big Country at the Caird Hall in Dundee or The Bluebells when they played up at Smokes in Arbroath. Have car will travel.

What is the best gig or performance you’ve been to?

Probably Talk Talk at the Playhouse in Edinburgh, 1986. I’d been playing bass in a band for all of 9 months or so, should’ve quit while I was ahead😉

What are you listening to at the moment?

Andrew Wasylyk’s ‘’The Paralian’’ has been going round and round my car CD player for at least a week, and it’s not the first time it’s gotten stuck there either.

Are you reading a book at the moment, if so, what?

Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, James Ellroy’s The Cold Six Thousand and Asimov’s The Complete Robot.

Thanks Kenny – see you in August! X
