Emma Tricca plays the Woodland Stage at 6pm.
Bella Union recording artist ***** Shindig ‘dreamy psych-folk’
Emma Tricca was Championed by John Renbourn and Odetta at the beginning of her career and subsequently supported by both Jane Weaver and Andy Votel who released her first two records (‘Minor White’ and ‘Relic’). Emma‘s unique style has often been compared to a cross between the 60’s Greenwich Village artists, Nico and Patti Smith.
In her latest work, ‘Aspirin Sun‘ – her first for Bella Union, Emma teamed up once again with Jason Victor (The Dream Syndicate) and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) forming a band that echoes 70’s folk-rock with a certain psychedelic allure yet again with a completely distinctive sound.
Aspirin Sun Press Quotes
“A suite of songs progressing towards a climax… Aspiring Sun is a coherent entity which should be heard as a whole.” MOJO – 4 stars ****
“With a voice that lands somewhere between Anohni and Beth Orton, a new-found kosmische influence permeates throughout. Take ‘Rubens’ House’, which blends Mazzy Star with the propulsive power of Neu!, while ‘Autumn’s Fiery Tongue’ is a slice of dreamy psych-folk; ‘Space and Time’ is simply achingly beautiful. This is near as dammit a masterpiece.” Shindig – 5 stars *****
“Shifting seamlessly between the pastoral and the cosmic, Tricca’s fourth album is also her most personal, confronting themes of love, loss and alienation. The playing is imaginative throughout, with little surprises around every corner.” Record Collector – 4 stars ****
